## Why Build a Voice Assistant I wanted to understand how Siri and Alexa worked under the hood. So I built my own — Diana. ## The Tech Stack - **Python**: Core language - **SpeechRecognition**: For voice input - **gTTS**: For text-to-speech output - **Telegram API**: For remote control and notifications ### Key Features 1. **Voice commands**: Play music, set timers, search the web 2. **Telegram integration**: Send commands via chat, get notifications 3. **Custom wake word**: "Hey Diana" to activate 4. **Memory**: Remembers user preferences ## Challenges The hardest part was making it reliable. Speech recognition is noisy, and natural language processing is hard. I ended up using a simple intent-matching system instead of full NLP. ## What I Learned - **AI is hard**: Building something that "just works" takes way more effort than you think - **Edge cases are everywhere**: What if there's background noise? What if the user mumbles? - **Start simple**: My first version was a glorified if/else chain, and it worked fine
